Many of us spend our lives doing the things we have to do instead of what we want to do. When you finally get the chance to do whatever you want, you’re stuck. If you’re used to working during the week and suddenly you get fired or you quit. You realize…. what am I going to do with all of this time. My view on all of this is, try and prioritize a few things that you really care about, then let the small things just sort of fall where they may.
Imagine you have a large glass jar. Next to it, you have a few large rocks, a small pile of marble-sized pebbles, and a pile of sand. If you put in the sand or the pebbles first, what happens? You cant fit the big rocks in.
Tim Ferriss
You can allow the sand of life to fill all your time, little errands into oblivion. Or you can focus most of your energy on the super important boulders of your life and let the others filter through.
For me this most commonly applies to the amount of time I spend on screens. I get almost no nutritional value out of staring at my screen for hours but for some reason Im absolutely drawn to it. This is something I see as a problem because I can easily let that habit fill my jar with sandy bullshit. Spend all my precious time doing things that honestly….. Id rather not do at all.
What small action can you do today to put something important at the front of the line?
